Going about my business today
Yours was the last face I'd expected
But there you were in my way
Looking at me/through me
We shared a laugh, some cheap humor
Neither of us could afford more
Studying your crooked nose, your twisted mouth
Scars I'd never noticed
You should not have cut your hair
I studied the shape of your chest
I took a snapshot in my mind
And filed you away, where you'll stay
I won't soon mistake proximity for serendipity
(You only live a mile away)
